An's Guide to Upstate New York - part 2 & Khaite Sample Sale Haul
10 more upstate spots to add to your list + KHAITE sample sale timeline/price break-down & a really good haul
I’ve written and scrapped several newsletter topics this week. I’m still processing through all of the feelings and emotions, heartbroken about the many innocent lives that have already been taken and fearful for what’s to come.
“Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime.” — Ernest Hemingway, 1946
I hear it from both sides, actually, many sides, and it’s confusing to navigate as there is a lot of noise and misinformation on the news and social media.
I pray for world peace.
Please send along resources on what I can do to help. It’s Friday the 13th, and I’m sending you good luck today! Reach out to your family and friends, and stay safe!
New England’s leaf-peeping season is here. By the time this gets to you, it’s already a bit too late. My goal is to be in upstate, Vermont, New Hampshire where there’s more green mixed into yellow, orange, and red. I’d say the first week of October is ideal. You should absolutely plan for it next year. I couldn’t this year because we had family from out of town coming to visit. We did a day trip upstate, hiking and exploring Hudson, and that was a lot of fun.
In case you missed it, I wrote a Hudson guide and shared my list of all of the best places to eat and must-visit shops. I also included a list of inspirational spaces, places & experiences nearby that you can go to (if you have a car) in my Upstate NY Guide (part 1). My list has grown a lot ever since.
This week’s list is a continuation of both posts plus a few new spots that are new on my radar. Make sure to double-check for the opening hours as these businesses’ opening hours are limited. I’d definitely recommend adding them all to your Google Maps now so that it’s easier to plan out your trip.
Upstate New York Guide - part 2

1. Kaaterskill Falls in Haines Falls
Trail name: Kaaterskill Rail Trail to Kaaterskill Falls
It’s family & kid-friendly, and I’d rate it as easy with some stair climbing at the bottom portion of the falls. I’d recommend going as early in the morning as you can to snag a free parking spot. We arrived around noon and had to pay $10 to park at the overflow parking lot. This paid lot is privately owned, but it’s next to the lake with plenty of picnic tables and a great view. We did the overlook first then hike down to the bottom of the falls. From start to finish, it takes us 2 hours with a short break.
